TJoseph Tartavoulle has always had a love for woodworking. Some of his earliest memories were spent in his grandfatherβs woodshop, watching him turn raw wood into something useful, beautiful, and made by hand.Even though Josephβs full-time work has been as a mechanic, those skills have carried right into this business β problem solving, working with tools, building with precision, and figuring things out one piece at a time. For Christy, wood has family roots too. She spent time with her grandfather, Apaw, who worked with lumber, hauled wood to lumber yards, sold timber from his land, and created beautiful keepsakes by hand. Some of her sweetest memories were sitting with him, whittling wood and watching him bring simple pieces to life. The idea for Tartavoulle Grazing Co. began at Christmas in 2023, when Christy wanted one large board for her table to hold all the food for a Christmas party. She searched everywhere for something big enough, beautiful enough, and practical enough β but everything she found was either too small or outrageously priced.Thatβs when Joseph told her, βI can make one.βSo they went to a local lumber store, found the right piece of wood, and Joseph built the board for their table. Christyβs best friend, Kacie, who has a gift for decorating food beautifully, came over to help set everything up. That Christmas gathering had around 30 to 40 people, and the board became the centerpiece of the table.People kept asking where they could get one.Thatβs when Christyβs marketing mind started turning. She realized there was a need for large, handcrafted boards made for the way Southern families actually gather and eat. Around here, itβs not just cheese and crackers. Itβs turkey, casseroles, vegetables, dips, desserts, and a table full of food meant to feed a crowd. That is why we call them grazing boards. From that first Christmas table, the dream began. It has not been an easy road, but with Josephβs craftsmanship and Christyβs marketing and design background finally coming together, Tartavoulle Grazing Co. is becoming more than a business. It is a legacy they are building for their children, grandchildren, and generations to come.
